The biopsychosocial model is well-known. By adding the overarching spiritual dimension in theory and praxis, the experience of patients is that they feel existentially known and valued as a whole person. It is important to discern also on the spiritual dimension which aspects are beneficial and which ones unhealthy for the person or the social dimension. In this way a positive, goal oriented and personally tailored treatment is possible. The biopsychological dimension concerns the relationship to oneself, the social dimension the relationship to others and the spiritual dimension the relationship to one's values and/or to God if the person is religious.
The Mature Religiosity Scale (MRS) is designed as a means to measure the three dimensions from the perspective of the overarching spiritual dimension. It has strong psychometric properties and a good validity. Keywords for the three dimensions are Freedom for the biopsychological dimension (‘Orientation to higher values out of a sense of inner freedom’), Responsibility for the social dimension (‘Responsibility for fellow humans and creation’) and Trust for the spiritual dimension (‘Trust in God pervades the entire life’). The Questionnaire has proven itself in several international publications.
After a theoretical introduction, the MRS will be introduced and practised.
