Introductie

From the first session I did I was curious about how the sessions might look like if somebody else had been the therapist. I started as a Psychodynamic counsellor as this provided the depth I was looking for at the time. Now I am an integrative therapist integrating psychodynamic and systemic approaches. Being integrative made me understand that I am not only integrating different parts of the theory but also integrating different parts of myself.

Materiaal en methodes

In this paper I review the use of self in literature and reflect on my own practice. The discussion goes on to point out that different training brings out different aspects of the individual and also amplifies the therapist’s issues.

Resultaten

The paper concludes with the statement that: it is not only clients that are different. The therapists are also different in how they respond to client, based on their training and based on their background.

Conclusie

The conclusion also opens a question for the wider discussion: why we choose one particular training and not other, why for example I loved psychodynamic modality for some time and why now I have faith in systemic model - ever lasting change and development similar to human growth.
