Introductie
In Japan, suicides under the age of 18 occur most frequently on September 1 at the end of summer vacation in the past 40 years. The number of completed suicides in adolescence is inclined to increase immediately on the day after summer vacation. A student with some school problem which existed before summer vacation may be gradually becoming more and more nervous, anxious, and/or depressive toward the end of summer vacation.
Materiaal en methodes
Ms. A, 13-year-old junior high school student in a second grader, attempted suicide by hanging and drug overdoing on September 1. She was admitted to our emergency department and hospitalized for 7 days.
Resultaten
According to Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV, she had no diagnosis, but she chronically had had suicidal ideation and repeated a short period depression since elementary school days . There was a serious background that she had been poor at building a close relationship with others, and had a significant conflict with her parents.
Conclusie
It was not enough just to solve school problems for prevention of her suicide reattempt. This case report focused on the influence of the relationship between her and her family on her stress coping at school.
