Introductie

Attachment patterns based on early emotional interactions between infant and primary caregiver have continued to be influential in adult life, in terms of mental health and behaviors of individuals. The present study aims to examine the relationships between university students’ attachment style and self-esteem, alexithimic features, satisfaction of life, and level of resilience and to investigate the mediational role of self-esteem in the relation between attachment dimensions and independent variables.

Materiaal en methodes

The sample of the research consists of 425 university students. The participants who sign the informed consent completed Experinces in Close Relationships-Revised, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, The Satisfaction with Life Scale, Toronto Alexithymia Scale, and Resilience Scale for Adults

Resultaten

According to results, anxious, and avoidant dimensions of attachment predicted the self-esteem score and alexithymia in positive direction. On the other hand, these dimensions of attachment predicted life satisfaction in negative direction. The results of path analysis revealed the mediational role of self esteem in relation between anxious, and avoidant attachment styles and life satisfaction, alexithymia, and resilience.

Conclusie

Therefore, it is thought that therapeutic intervention intended for recovery in attachment relationship will increase the self-esteem, life satisfaction and resilience level, in the one side, decrease the alextihimic features, in the other side.
