Introductie

The knowledge of Ilm’uNafs is a discipline which is such a science that Muslim philosophers, medical doctors, clerics and sufis produced knowledge on psychological structure of man. The structure and functioning of man could be explained within the sphere of contemporary science and philosophy, or theology (metaphysics). While Ilm’uNafs shows astonishing similarities in comparison to modern psychotherapy theories.There is also further potential differences for enriching psychotherapy. .

Materiaal en methodes

In particular, the similarities and differences between Ilm’uNafs and current psychotherapy theories and the approaches will be discussed especially on the theories of the psychological "impulse" and "cognition". In this context, the 3K model (Kuwwa-i gadabiya, kuwwa-i shahawiya and kuwwa-i akliya), psychoanalytic impulse theory and intra psychic equilibrium concept and the 4T model (tahayyul, tasawwur, taakkul, tasdiq)will be compared with insphere of the cognitive theories of cognitive therapies.Various treatment of the Ilm’uNafstheories will be discussed with case exsample.

Resultaten

It has been seen that Ilm'uNafs models have broader concepts, especially in the cognitive field.

Conclusie

Ilm'uNafs models are apt to overcome many problems with the conceptual richness they bring to the theoretical areas where contemporary psychotherapies are stuck.
