Universal SEL screener, Using a Data Framework to Inform Decisions

Summary

This breakout session will address the reasons for a universal screener, specifically reviewing national and local data; the selection process our district used to identify the screener and SEL universal curriculum; the planning and implementation steps, which took one year before launching; the data analysis process, and the tiered interventions selected and implemented. Participants will review district level, school level, and classroom level data using a facilitated roundtable/World Cafe. This data is used to inform decisions regarding tiered SEL interventions. The session will use a Culture of Data Use Framework to help participants build data literacy and data culture in their own schools. The framework identifies 5 elements: Ensuring Access to Data, Making Meaning from Data, Clarifying Expectations for Data Use, Building Knowledge and Skills to Use Data, and Leading a Culture of Data Use. Each element will be reviewed in the context of how our district implemented each with our SEL universal screener data so that other districts can model this framework. The session will end with participants drafting action steps for their use upon return to their districts.
