Since 2007, every five years all students in the 8 class in the city of Zurich have become questions regarding mental and physical health and lifestyle. The last survey took place in 2017 with 1678 pupils (participation rate 91%), on average 14.1 years old. The vast majority of students rate their own health and emotional state as good to very good. Satisfaction with the school has increased significantly in the last 10 years. The consumption of sweet drinks, energy-drugs and tobacco has declined (but consumption of Sisha has been added). The consumption of alcohol and cannabis has remained. Sexual contacts take place later. On the other hand the most worrying is the adolescent's academic pressure and career choices. Psychosomatic pain has increased over the past decade. And only half of the adolescents call their own body weight just right. Experiences of discrimination and violence are reported more frequently. 12% of male students and 20% of female students report serious evidence of anxiety and depression. 7% are missing more often at school. The City Health Services of the City of Zurich (with school psychology, School doctor service and addiction prevention) are now planning preventive offers for better access to assistance.
