Summary

Since professional behavioral support was built for special students with challenge behaviors in 1990’s in Taipei, the school refusal of students with special needs emerged in the early 2000’s. The Liupe Academy was built in Taipei specifically for special students with severe school refusal in 2008.  It is a half-way transition program for the 3rd- to 12th- grade students.  The working model was constructed in the first two years and has been used, which is considered as useful guideline for teacher and staff of academy.  The working model was called “3-phase-8-step” on base of the positive behavioral support (PBS). The first phase aims to build relationship with students and consists of three steps: initial intact, increasing attending, and secure relationship.  The second phase aims to work with students and consists of three steps: working with regulation, started learning tasks, and ready to transition to school.  The third phase aims to help students back to schools and regular attend to school.  The workshop will introduce the working model and the experience of Liuhe academy.  All the participants will be invited to apply it to cases.  The discussion of the participants’ application is expected for the deep understanding the model.
