Summary

Reflection Group for Teachers: The School Psychological Service for Meilen County (SPBD Meilen), located on the lake of Zürich, has run this popular regularly scheduled teacher supervision group for almost a decade. Guided by school psychologists, time and space is provided for teachers to work through difficult issues, such as problems with individual students, parents or in classroom and school settings. Systemic supervision methods (psychodrama, sculpturing, externalization, etc.) are used to gain a broader understanding of emotionally challenging situations and to experience together the complexity of the larger systemic context. In addition to achieving an understanding based on discussion, these tools promote the experience of emotions which opens up another level of understanding. Through this deeper insight, teachers gain new problem-solving approaches. SPBD Meilen finds the Reflection Group to be a low threshold and cost-effective intervention.

The Workshop: The workshop participants witness and participate in a simulated Reflection Group. The workshop begins with an introduction to the Reflection Group. Then, a simulated Reflection Group is run by workshop participants and members of the SPBD Meilen team. The workshop wraps up focusing on how participants can use these tools and experiences to start their own Reflection Groups.
