Training School Psychologists; Accreditation, Future PlansSummary
Since 2011 ISPA has accredited eight school/educational psychology programmes spanning three continents, two of which have also been re-accredited. During this period the accreditation committed has overseen a revision of the ISPA goals and standards for school psychology training programmes together with the accreditation procedures. Information about ISPA accreditation has been provided in several editions of WGR and a paper was published in the international Journal of School and Educational Psychology.
Over the past two years, however, there has been a slowdown in the number of programmes seeking accreditation and all of these have come from programmes in the USA, two of which have, for different reasons, been postponed – perhaps indefinitely.
The aim of this roundtable discussion is to consider the future of accreditation in the light of current developments. How can we take the ISPA accreditation process forward? Do the standards need revising? How can we encourage more programmes to submit themselves for accreditation?
These and other questions will form the basis of what I hope will be a lively and productive discussion.
