Colorado Society of School Psychologists State-Wide Crisis Response Team, (CSSP S-W CRT), Creation, Changes and Current Status
The CSSP S-W CRT, was created in 1999 following the Columbine High School shooting. Mental health providers met to discuss next steps. School psychologists, who attended the original meeting, attended a National Organization of Victim Assistance training, passed the certification test and became founding members of the CSSP S-W CRT.
The team was sanctioned by the Colorado Society of School Psychologists, CSSP, in 2000. In addition to the support of CSSP, the team was awarded a three year Sliver Grant through the Colorado Department of Education. The purpose of the grant was to develop and offer trainings to school districts on the topics of trauma, crisis prevention, response and intervention. Members of CRT offered their support to NASP during the development of PREPaRE. Many members are PREPaRE I and II Trainers and have led numerous trainings in Colorado.
The team has responded to all major crises in Colorado since its formation including school shootings, and natural/community disasters. Learn how the team coordinates with Colorado organizations following a significant crisis. The workshop will conclude with details related to maintenance, change and current status.
