Summary

The purpose of this study was to see a tendency of recognition of school crisis preparedness among school personnel.

In Study-1, the respondents were 2,088 teachers in several regions in Japan. The questionnaire, in Japanese, was adopted and translated from the questionnaire in English conducted by Varnava(2004), and consisted of school crisis investigation (6 domains: cooperation among family, school, and community, value, organization, environment, curriculum, and training) by four-point scale. Three-way ANOVA among present positions, school levels, and 6 domains, was carried on. School levels and positions were the between-subjects factors, while domains were the within-subject factors. The main effect among domains and the interaction between a school level and a position were significant.

In Study-2, 1,129 school nurses were administered the same survey as mental and physical health of students at Japanese schools were their major responsibilities. The results showed that respondents were not satisfied with school crisis preparedness at schools and also, there were differences in some aspects according to their teaching experience. The school personnel providing responsive services (school counseling, student guidance, and school nursing) resulted to have larger differences among domains, while administrators revealed rather higher recognition, except for organization in the crisis prevention among domains.
