Summary

Multi-family groups have shown to be an effective way to form a helpful network for children and their families, who exhibit conduct problems in school. In these groups, parents and children are able to observe and reflect their own interactions and communication as well as those of the other families while working and playing together. Discussing their difficulties and their coping strategies gives them new perspectives and enhances a spirit of solidarity and new strength (detailed description of the theoretical background and practical model of multi-familiy groups can be found for example in Asen & Scholz, 2009 or Dawson, McHugh & Potter, 2012). Multi-family groups are well known in several countries.

In this workshop a team of school psychologists from Zurich will show, why multi-family groups are particularly suitable for our work: It is a mentalization and attachment based group training that allows to engage several parents, children and teachers in a developmental process. The ongoing multi-family work of the school psychology service of Zurich will be presented and practical insights  will be given. The participants are welcome to take an active part in the exercises.
