Summary

Despite the widespread practice of providing psychological support to Japanese schools in crisis, there is little consensus regarding its basic concepts and methods. Therefore, this study aimed to develop guidelines for psychological support to Japanese schools in crisis.  Here, we describe items about responses to schools in sudden crises the items consist of parents’ support and administration of questionnaires to students.

A two-round, web-based Delphi process was conducted. Participants were 132 experts who were asked to rate the agreement of items generated from previous research using a zero to nine scale. They reassessed their scores in the light of others’ responses in subsequent rounds.

In the first round, there were 107 (87%) valid responses. Consensus was not achieved for two items regarding administration of questionnaire to students. The lowest mean score was 6.10 and the second lowest was 6.61. According to the free description, opinions were divided for the time and purpose of the questionnaire.

Therefore, items were modified with reference to opinion, such as administering the questionnaire to students to facilitate self-understanding and expression.

As a result, consensus was achieved for ten statements in the second round. The scores of the two items rose to 7.71 and 7.72 respectively.
