Delphi method, school crisis in Japan, guideline, basic conceptsSummary
Despite the widespread practice of providing psychological support to Japanese schools in crisis, there is little consensus regarding its basic concepts and methods.
Therefore, to prepare guidelines on providing emergency assistance at schools, experts formed consensus using the Delphi method. In this study, we report the basic concepts (13 items) of emergency assistance, and common items (14 items) related to crises such as accidents and disasters. The first survey was conducted with 132 clinical psychologists with SC experience. The final effective sample comprised 107 respondents (87.0%). Out of the 27 items identified, 23 exceeded the consensus standard. The item with the highest mean consensus score was “to share information about high-risk students among faculty and staff, and to prepare a system of providing support at any time, through watch over or check in on them” (8.73). Four items did not exceed the consensus standard. These items generally pertained to the “who” and “when” aspects of providing support for children and bereaved families, and teacher training by SC. Evidently, the experts did not agree on these respects.
