Currently, there are no systmetic social and emotional curriculum in Chinese school settings. Nevetheless, quite a few students encounter difficulities in school life such as interpersonal relationship and emotional management. What are some possbile factors contribute to their problems and how to help them? The study aimed to explore the relationship between school climate, parent-child communication and social and emotional competency of junior high school students and the influence of intervention on their social and emotional learning competency. 165 grade seven students from a public junior middle school in Beijing participated in the pretest. Based on the results of the WCSD Social and Emotional Competency Long-Form Assessment used in the pretest, the experienmental group and the control group were divided. The group intervention courses adapted The Strong Kids - Grades 6-8 Curriculum and ten interventions will be conducted. The methods of expriments, questionnaires and interviews were used. The study has two hypotheses: the first one is that school climate, parent-child communication is significantly correlated to social and emotional competency. The second hypothesis is that there will be significant difference of social and emotional competency between experimental group and control group.
