When we work for school as school psychologists we deal with three main parts: child, parents and teachers. In Lithuania we have big problem involving parents to educational process of school which includes also child’s psychological wellbeing. To reach parents and get their presence sometimes takes enormous efforts. That generates negative feelings and attitudes towards parents, also impedes effective work with child. It is important to find system and tools how to bring back parents to school.
Long lasting practical work with schools and groups of professionals for child’ assistance at school provided clear view what gives positive results while working with parents:
- sustainable and systematic approach ( includes work with individuals and families; importance of parents’ education),
- understanding parents’ fears and animosity ( includes different understanding about roles of school and family as an institution; personal attitudes and expectations),
- patience ( includes mistakes made from school side; ability of school to see difficulties and challenges).
Presentation will describe in more details about mentioned above factors.
