Summary

The authors have conducted peer support programs for eradicating bullying for junior high school students for several years. The programs have been alternated into activities that representative students proactively pursue. However, the spread of peer support activities to other students is an issue. Therefore, we conducted peer support training progressively for the students who support the representative students (peer support- members) and representative students of another school, in addition to students who have experience of peer support training so far.

The purpose of this study was to clarify the effect of the program. The contents of the program werefocused on the emotional and the cognitive aspect of the atmosphere from the viewpoint of interaction with the environment.

The participants were 55 junior high school students in Grade 7 and 8. The 50-minute program was conducted four times. All students conducted pre- post-questionnaire.

As a result, in any group, anxiety and tension decreased as the number of times increased. The students’ descriptions suggest that cognition of a receptive atmosphere raised motivation for training and encourage active participation. Meanwhile, it was also found that support members are susceptible to environmental influences such as changing places and activity groups.
