Chinese ParentingSummary
The current study conducted an online questionnaire to explore the most positive and negative parenting experiences perceived by either parents or children in China. Two core questions were asked: (1) what’s the best thing your parent did in the parenting? (2) What’s the worst thing your parents did in the parenting? Participants who had children were also asked to reflect these two questions on how they parented their children. Data gathered from 601 participants were coded through ground theory and thematic analysis, and these most positive and negative experiences were considered as protect and risk factors in the Chinese parenting process. According to data analysis, 11 protect factors and 14 risk factors were identified in current research. By recognizing these factors, researchers and practitioners could better understand how Chinese parents and children perceive their parenting process.
