Summary

This study examined the effectiveness of a newly repackaged 6-week parent training program titled Aerostata that is based on the "Parenting The Strong Willed Child" Group Curriculum (PSWC-GC). The six basic components of the original program were maintained. It was then translated and adapted in Greek and enriched significantly to be used in clinical trials with a community sample of Greek-speaking parents in Cyprus. Participants (N=47) were parents of children ages 2-8 years old who presented with difficult behaviors. Participants who met inclusion criteria were  randomly assigned into an intervention and a wait-control group. They completed a packet of self-report questionnaires at baseline T1 and again at the end of the intervention T2. Preliminary comparative analysis suggests that there was a significant decrease post intervention at T2 on both dependent variables, namely child defiance and parenting stress. Qualitative and quantitative data also suggest high consumer satisfaction. The implications of the study are discussed in terms of the role of school psychologists in empowering parents to interrupt the developmental pathway of disruptive behaviors in early childhood.
